Vyle is a producer, songwriter, and vocalist who grew up in Chicago’s South Side neighborhood of Hyde Park. As a child, he found he was more interested in technology, comic books, anime and John Carpenter film scores than hip hop and popular music. But when a locally famous artist heard his first ever freestyle and encouraged him to cultivate his talent, vyle began to write and perform rap seriously. During high school, vyle released a series of tapes that garnered press from magazines such as URB (Next 100) and XLR8R; he was featured on MTV’s My Block: Chicago; and played at festivals alongside world-class artists such as Björk, Daft Punk and Kanye West. After attending a year at School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he pursued photography, vyle earned a distribution deal with Universal Music Group.
Uninspired by the music industry’s interpretation of him and his work, vyle gave back his advance in order to preserve his artistic integrity. Soon after this bold move, the artist’s universe entered a vacuum; vyle encountered the tragedy of his mother and grandmother passing within three months of each other and experienced a sustained period of depression. He lived in the streets for over three years. Amidst the chaos, vyle transformed his journey to become recognized as one of New York City’s foremost talents.
vyle is grateful to have played at festivals such as Governor’s Ball, SXSW, Lollapalooza, CMJ and the Pitchfork Music Festival. He currently maintains DJ residencies at Manhattan’s Up & Down, NEARFUTURE, and THOTLANDIA, a monthly event in Brooklyn that can call attendees like Alexander Wang, Hari Nef, and Mykki Blanco regulars.
Since the start of the 2016, vyle has produced for such artists as Azealia Banks, Boyslashfriend, Cakes Da Killa, and Rick Ross, amongst others. He was also featured in publications like Newhive, DIS Magazine, Bullett Magazine, and The Fader. vyle also provided DJ support for entities such as PC Music, Gypsy Sport, Samsung, Dell, Alienware, and Sennheiser. Furthermore, vyle’s sound production has been included in art installations at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Hammer Museum, the School of Visual Arts, Superchief Gallery SOHO, City Bird Gallery, and Bitcoin Center NYC.
vyle is a Member of the New Museum incubator, NEW INC, where he is currently finishing up his second official album entitled “A Ü T O/M Ö T O R”, which will include an art exhibition presenting interactive 3D environments, video, and art accompaniment pieces from collaborators including Cities Aviv, Jeanette Hayes, Dos Global, Chapman, Mary Scahill, and Hattie Ball, amongst others.
